You can ask. That does seem like a lot.
Usually companies reimburse after the fact. Get a receipt from the cabbie, & turn them in to your accounting department for reembursement.
If you were my employee I would say yes– but it depends on the business and the reason you are traveling. If it is for training then that could make a difference on the petty cash, reimbursement is more common in that case.
Discuss your problem with your immediate supervisor. He/she should know if your company has a way to give you an advance on your expenses.
you can ask. I had a company that refused to advance any expense. often had my month salary out in expense payments. The first time they paid in advance was when I had 50 thousand dollars in planned travel over 23 days. France, Egypt, Kuwait, Philipines, Hong Kong, India, France (again) Switzerland – home.
